DIY/tactical/guerrilla/pop-up urbanism projects for the win

What are the DIY and temporary urban interventions happening in your neighborhood or town? Think parklets a la PARK(ing) Day, guerrilla gardening, the Chicago Compost Shelter, ciclovia, etc etc. Extra points if it's in NYC or LA as I'll be in both cities in June and can check them out in person.
Does it have to be DIY/guerrilla? Summer Streets is definitely a "temporary urban intervention", though it's sponsored by the city.

Response by poster: City-sponsored is fine too, sometimes the line shifts over time as towns get down with these projects!

This weekend in LA is the Big Parade a 2 day walk through the city.
Not sure if this counts, but if you're coming to LA in June, you could join this Hidden Stairs of LA meetup group and come to one of their walks.
Also, Yarn Bombing LA is going to cover the Craft and Folk Art Museum in granny squares May-July in LA. Anyone can help/contribute.

There's a tent city near-ish me in Seattle called Nickelsville. They have shelters, a place to grill food, a container garden, and two goats which are clearing more land for use. They are definitely deciding what city land should be used for. (None of them on the list appear to be near either you or the places you're visiting, though.)

There was a fascinating application of tactical urbanism recently in Hamilton, Ontario, where the city reacted very negatively to the interventions but now is formalizing some of them.
