I need some help coming up with a super cool, creative way to tell my new 13 yr old daughter about her upcoming birthday present, a weekend in NYC...

I asked this question a few weeks ago about things to do while there... Thanks for all the great answers!! Now I need a great way to "give" her the gift. Something to wrap, some cool, creative way to let her know about it. She already has an I love NYC t-shirt that grandma brought her several years ago.....was gonna wrap the plane tickets but that's so boring. I want something with wow factor!!! The more elaborate, the better. So hit me green....let's see what the hive can come up with. Thanks all, again!!!

Best answer: A (big) apple? Would have to be more of a clue that a gift unto itself, though.
Tickets to something you're going to do there (which gets the, "but mom, that's in new york!" reaction)?
Cut a map or something similar into a puzzle?
If she has a smartphone, maybe surreptitiously add a subway map app to it? That one might take some creativity to make sure she notices, though.

Reverse geocache box. Add a time window so the box says "will open on mm/dd/yy at xxxx yyyy. Coordinates for the airport. Tickets are inside.

This Christmas, I printed up a custom jigsaw puzzle of a local ballpark that we were taking some folks to as a gift.

Somehow try work in this 35 year old Canadian punk song by the Demics.

I would do a cut-out of the skyline, like the back of the talk show hosts... come downstairs, like Christmas morning, and see it backlit, then play some Sinatra in the background.

Best answer: Why not Lego Empire State Building?

Print out a Metrocard from an online image (it won't really work but it's the looks that count.) Put in an appropriate sized box, wrap with pretty paper as if it's a swatch or a lip gloss...

Response by poster: I hate to claim an idea without letting the question ride but I bought a Lego Guggenheim......that is perfect!!! Thanks for the idea telerio25. She loves Lego, we are going to the Guggenheim.....she usually mooches off of her brother's sets so she will be puzzled that I bought her a set of her own.....Awesome!!! Keep the ideas coming cause I may do a few other things, theme presents till it hits her... Love the puzzle idea and metro card as well.... you guys are great!!

Best answer: How about a Crumpled City Map of New York?

13 small boxes, each with a clue?

My friend made someone a dress out of Metrocards.

One of those Greek diner ceramic coffee mugs? Or a cool guide to New York, like TimeOut? The Transit Museum sells some subtle token-based jewelry, but it's a bit pricey-- maybe this NYC metro cuff?

Best answer: Stop and frisk her on the way home from school!

Otherwise I really like the idea of sneaking various NYC-related items into the background of her daily life.

Best answer: I'd make a big box, and then fill it with clues and the gifts mentioned here. I do this all the time and people love it. Write a couplet with a clue on each item.

Let's say a Metrocard. This is your ticket to the big city, it's busy and big and sometimes pretty.

You can have multiple items:

The Guggenheim Legos
An apple
A Metrocard
Tickets to a Broadway show
A mini-statue of liberty

Etc. You get the idea. Since she's 13, I'd get 13 items.

Trust me, she'll be thrilled with so many cool things to open and then, she'll put it all together!

Tape it and put it on You Tube.
