Rip off

My Windows Media Player has begun ripping CD's when inserted, despite having that function clicked off in the settings.
I can't figure out any way to stop this supremely annoying development. Even associating CDAudio with Winamp doesn't stop the old ripper from firing up as soon as the CD tray closes. Can somebody help me?

Response by poster: It isn't checked. That's what makes this puzzling.

You might try checking it, saving the settings and then opening it up and unchecking it. I've seen a number of situations where poorly coded stuff didn't deal well with junked registry data. The set-and-unset should save the proper setting again.

and if that doesn't help, you can always try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Should the problem reappear, you might try going to My computer, right-clicking on D: drive (presumably), selecting properties, then checking the "autoplay" tab to see if windows is calling up WMP from there.

open windows media player, go to the "tools" menu (in WMP 10, you'll need ot right-click the top of the window), choose "options," select the "rip music" tab and see if "rip CD when inserted" is checked.
