Iphone 3gs screen is locked

My iphone 3gs screen is locked keeping me from entering the passcode. When I try, the computer voice announces the action but in a very rapid cadence but still doesn't permit me to unlock the screen. The phone is relatively new and I would like to continue to use it. Any suggestions?

I have a 4s and it has been locking up like crazy recently. What has helped me is powering down the phone for a bit. If you haven't tried it yet, I suggest doing a full restart and seeing if that clears up whatever bugginess is going on.

Try double tapping each number, not necessarily quick like a double-click on a computer, but tap, listen, tap. Also try pressing the home button 3 times in quick succession. It's very likely you accidentally turned on the accessibility feature for visually impaired people.

If you are able to get it unlocked, and triple pressing home doesn't turn off VoiceOver, then follow these instructions.

If VoiceOver is on and you want to turn it off from the device instead of from iTunes, remember that a double-tap acts like a single tap and you need to use three fingers to scroll when VoiceOver is on:

Press Home.
Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On" next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.

You can configure the device to display options for VoiceOver, Zoom, or White on Black when you triple-click the Home button. This feature is off by default; to enable it, tap Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-click Home."
