Jump on the iPhone bandwagon--maybe

Thinking about getting iPhone 5 for Christmas--currently have Droid 3 with Verizon and contract not up--6 months left. Do I have any purchasing options other than paying $600+ for the new iPhone? Should I pay to cancel current contract and start a new one and get phone at a discount? Other thoughts?

Call Verizon and ask whether they will give you the subsidized rate now if you'll sign on for another 2-year contract. (Assuming you will stay with Verizon.)

I had success with that approach with Verizon a few phones ago.

Figuring you signed to a $350 ETF, your prorated ETF would be ~$170 if you're 18 months into a 24 month contract. I don't think you'd be able to port your number though. Also, doesn't Verizon offer discounts on a new phone for reupping your contract early? Have you checked your iPhone price on Apple's Upgrade Eligibility checker? Click Upgrade Eligibility on the right hand side under "Learn more about buying iPhone."

Wait 6 months? That's the logical answer. Android is perfectly cromulant for that long. And the scuttlebutt is that an iPhone 5s will come out early, so you'll get the latest and greatest.

-sent from my awesome iPhone 5.

Chiming in as a Verizon user who got an 18-month upgrade offer when I asked for it. I was considering going someplace else and told them that, and they clicked a couple things and then I got the thing I wanted.
