Saving an Excel file with images as web page - why are thumbnails being created?

I have an Excel file with 103 embedded images and my goal is simply to extract all the image files. Saving as a web page works fine, putting all the images in a folder - but it's also creating thumbnails for all the images, giving me 206 images. I don't want this. I want 103 images, named sequentially. Weird twist: the thumbnail creation started happening after I'd done it successfully (103 images) 2 or 3 times. How do I stop the thumbs from being created?

My experience of saving word files as web pages is that I always get two sets of images- one set is the original size and the second set seems to be resized or cropped depending on what has been done to them in the Word doc.

If the images you don't want are thumbnails, just sort by size in explorer and pick out the originals.
