Yet Another Sci-Fi story title quest

I’m looking for the title of a Sci-Fi short story. It involves a species of near humans that live on Earth, but camouflage themselves by the fact that humans can’t remember them.
The species are often talented on are leaders in their fields, set sports records, etc. Yet no one remembers them. The main character is one being who’s house is being torn down for a freeway (I think) because the people in charge keep forgetting his house is there.
I thought I would be able to find this in a search, but I think the concepts are too vague, or common.

Response by poster: It was a short story in a collection. The other species was not a threat like the Silence in Dr. Who, they were pretty passive and interacted normally with humans.

Reminds me of Zenna Henderson's stories about The People, although it's a long time since I read them and I don't recall that particular story line.

Response by poster: That’s it! It’s really stuck with me for years, yet I realized at some point that I had no idea what it was or who wrote it. I’ll go re-read now.
I thought for sure it was going to be some very obvious and popular author, but I don’t even recognize his name. I’ll have to look into his other stuff.

Response by poster: Now I’m pretty sure I read it here;

Which I remember being a really good collection, also exposing me to "The Machine Stops".

There was an episode of Doctor Who with aliens who can manage that trick, too - The Impossible Astronaut (the aliens were known as the Silence).
