Maybe I Shouldn't Buy Mall Jewelry?

I cannot figure out how to wear a necklace I bought (at a mall stand in New Orleans). It consists of one long silver chain with two sparkly Swarovski beads at the ends and a silver open loop in the middle. Here's a couple of pictures.

If I wear the necklace with the beads dropped through the ring, like this, it looks messy, I feel as though I'm choking, and the beads tend to work out of the ring. If I wear the necklace with a knot, like this, it is ridiculously long.

Ideas, hivemind?

Maybe wear it as a belt.

Best answer: I have something similar but much less fancy than that... I usually loop it around my neck twice then loop it through the ring. Makes it shorter and lets the ends dangle decoratively. The second loop, if I do it right, helps keep the necklace from being too tight, although it does still have a "choker" effect (but thats part of why I like it, as long as I can keep it comfortably loose.

In the same vein, I also sometimes loop it around my neck (the first time) and through the ring, then another loop around my neck, and through the ring a second time (if it'll fit) which seems to help it stay in place as long as I'm not trying to wear it when I'm going out dancing or anything like that.

You could also see if there are any Swarovski jewelers/dealers in the area that you could visit. They might either know how it should work or be able to get advice. Otherwise maybe there's a way to contact the company? It might be an odd question, but I'm sure they'll have someone that can find some suggestions :)

Can you pull the chain through the loop? If it's too long that way, you could double the part that's pulled through the loop by using a single twist.

(Too bad the first method you showed isn't working for you, 'cuz I think that looks nice!)

Response by poster: I wish I had bought from Swarovski. I got it from a vendor in a mall in Riverwalk in New Orleans. I'm sure she would help me out but I don't have contact info and am about 3000 miles away now.

Response by poster: blurker, I'm not tracking what you have in mind. This is undoubtedly the same brain block that led to the problem of figuring this out on my own.

A nice long and short design. I'd wear it wrapped through the loop and around a collared buttoned down dress shirt left open 2-3 buttons. A nice way to make a dress shirt and jacket more feminine. Also, let it dangle long over a wrap shirt or dress.

Best answer: Your lariat necklace is traditionally worn the way you think looks messy. The beads are perhaps not heavy enough to anchor it properly. You might think about having a jeweller remove the ring and connect the chain, leaving it open-ended and wearing it this way - it's a little neater-looking. Then, you can also wear it this way - like a flapper. Looking up "lassoo" and "lariat" necklaces will give you ideas.

I too prefer the first look, which I think is how it's best worn. It's so pretty, maybe learn to love it.

You can put it on the way you think looks messy, then loop one or both of the ends around the ring and through it again. This will keep it in place more securely so it won't choke you.

I'm not sure how to explain it any better (which shows you my sad state of brain at the moment). I'll try some google searches to see if there are any pics of what I mean. Meanwhile, I think you have some good answers about the best ways to wear it lariat style.
