Figuring out deductions from upcoming paycheck

I am starting a new job in the state of Virginia next month. How can I calculate how much I will be bringing home after taxes, social security, medicare, health benefits, retirement, etc?

I've seen this income tax calculator, and I can find my health benefits premium and retirement contribution information on my new employer's website, but I'm interested in other rates or tools that I can use for the other factors.

Social security and medicare tax - what is a good resource for determining this?

State income tax - should I get this from the Virginia department of revenue website?

I'd rather start thinking about budgeting my new income now, rather than waiting to see what comes out of my first paycheck.

Any other thoughts people have for this kind of calculating are much appreciated.

Thank you!

Best answer: Try paycheck calculator. Fill in the state, deductions, and how frequent you are paid.

Where in VA? The DC suburbs are going to be more expensive than other parts of the state, for example.

I've used that paycheck calculator (in VA even) and it was right on with the state and local tax deductions.
