seeds in my toilet brush holder

Mysterious seeds in toilet brush holder. WTF?
I cannot believe I'm posting this to AskMe, but here it is.
I last cleaned our toilet on saturday and didn't notice anything amiss with the toilet brush/bowl. Today I went to clean it again and when I lifted the brush out of it's holder, there were at least 20 seed-type things in the watery bottom of the brush holder. I'll spare you a picture, but they look like slightly shrively popcorn kernels.
I don't think the seeds/kernels were spilled in there because:
1. It's in the corner next to the toilet. It's only my fiance and I in the house and we were barely home yesterday or saturday after I cleaned the toilet. Neither of us recall spilling anything.
2. The seeds are only underneath the toilet brush, not stuck in the brushes bristles or on top of the toilet brush. I really don't think anything spilled in their whilst I was cleaning the toilet on saturday. There is a box of tissues on the back of the toilet but that's it.. no potpourri or anything.
Here's the twist: I've been stringing a lot of popcorn and cranberries and I've had a bowl of popcorn sitting out in the living room (right next to the bathroom) for a week or so. My fiance ventured that a mouse might be hoarding the popcorn kernels.. but in a toilet brush holder? wtf? Its quite clean and bleachy in there (for what it's worth I use Ecover toilet bowl cleaner and comet, maybe mice are attracted to the piny scent?). We have had mice problems in the past but we have a variety of rodent traps set up and have seen no other traces of mice.
We are totally stumped and kind of unnerved. Any insight?

Are they light colored? Maybe they are fly larvae.
Come on, we need pics of gross stuff! Share or it's gonna be 20 questions.

Do you have pets? Have they either been acting funny (like, hanging out in one place with an expectant/hunting look) or been interested in playing with the popcorn? I think if you had a mouse, a pet would notice. Or, if you have pets maybe they were up to something while you were away.

Response by poster: Alright, I'll take a photo. We have two labs who have been indifferent to the popcorn operation. They are dark colored. Be back with a photo.

Probably seeds hoarded by mice. Pets do notice mice when they are around, but they hole up and hide quite well during daylight hours. Time for a few traps.

Agree that a rodent is up to something.
But that third pic was especially helpful!

That third photo in particular was very helpful. Got to rule out suspects, dontchaknow, especially when they're adorable.

We just found seeds in our printer's paper tray. If you're in parts of the northern hemisphere, it's been a very mild autumn and I've noticed very late fall-like behavior from many animals - bugs, mice, squirrels and birds.

I vote for planting them in a mason jar to see if they hatch--alien life forms!!!
