Unknown Song.

I would like help with the identify of a song I heard on NPR a few years ago. It was something of a "metasong" with lyrics stating the part of the song currently being sung. Such as "this is the bridge" and "Here comes the chorus". I would like to hear this song again.

Is it The Song Song?

Please have a look at this site and go to "Method 7".
Is that it? The songwriter has been interviewed on NPR, it seems.

Have you been looking for this song for a while ? I just stumbled across that post while looking for the lyrics for "Here Comes The Chorus". Was that not it then? And not "The Song Song" either?

On preview: seems like namret may have it.

Actually....it's not how I remember it. I could swear they sung about bridges and choruses....oh, well....

Where's that confounded bridge?

Hi (again). I've remembered now....the "song about the song" I recollect IS this track....or more exactly the one that follows it. It has the same tune....but "meta" words. Sorry....brain a bit rusty today. Hope of help.

You might also like "The Song That Goes Like This" from Spamalot. (My favorite number in the show.)

It's not This Song, is it? I didn't think so, but figured it needed to be ruled out.

There's also a "Generic Uptempo Folk Song," performed by the Limeliters. I heard it on an NPR show called Salmagundy one morning. No lyrics online, but there's an excerpt in a review at Epinions.

Was it The Grunge Song by Corky & The Juice Pigs? I can't find the lyrics, but it's a song about itself "this is the part where we sing really quiet" etc.

Sorry, slightly OT-

I always liked the eno song (sorry, can't remember the title- maybe Skysaw?)

All the thoughts turn to words
All the words float in sequence
No-one knows what they mean
Everyone just ignores them

I'd listened to the song for years before someone pointed out the lyrics to me (I'd always just ignored them)...

It's not Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright is it?

I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah is by LEONARD COHEN, covered by Rufus and many others and it's about another song, not about itself.

Probably not it, but NOFX's Please play this song on the Radio?

Response by poster: It seems that "Metod 7" found by namret is the closet to what I remember.

This "metasong" idea seems to be a popular meme. And the simularity of the lyrics makes it difficult to ferret out the matches to vaugely remembered song.

Thank you for your help.
