Do athletes have musical bodies too?

I think I'm in okay shape. I lift weights 4 times a week, play soccer and have a good diet filled with vegetables, fruit and lean proteins. My body makes all kinds of crazy cracking noises (from my ankles to my shoulders) during and after exercise. Do professional athletes have this problem or am I not in as good shape as I thought?

I'm sure there are professional athletes who have that "problem", but I also suspect that you are not in as good of shape as most professional athletes are (excluding baseball players, of course).

Is it painful? You could call me the kracken (sorry) based on how often my joints snap, pop, and otherwise make funny noises. Went to see a sports-medicine doctor who also works for a top college football team, and he said it's totally cool as long it's not painful.

That being said, my body is not your body. Get thee to a doctor - ideally one specializing in sports medicine - and make sure for yourself.

Oh, sorry: I also lift 3 days a week, play(ed) D-I rugby, and eat quite well. To add to the anec-data.

Take fish oil. Y'know, the omega-3 kind.

Creaky joints? Add oil.
Who knew that'd work?

(First demonstrated by a friend, and then myself)

Omega-3s (fish oil as stated above and/or flaxseed oil) and MSM would help. Start on LOW doses of MSM.

I have very noisy joints (mostly ankles, some knees, some wrist and shoulder), but no pain associated and no athletic performance issues related to the noise. I've been this way since I was in my late teens/early 20s. If it doesn't hurt, it's unlikely to be a real problem.

(for anecdata purposes, I'm a high-level but sub-elite rock climber and former competitive college Ultimate player)
