y'know, like the Hendrix version of the Star-Spangled Banner.

I'm looking for more songs like this and this - long, wailing, meandering instrumental electric guitar music. Please recommend me some!

what I'm not looking for:
- vocals. too distracting while working.
- excerpts or parts of songs. I'd like to build a youtube or MP3 playlist eventually.
- heavy or fast metal (except maaaaaybe something like this, sans vocals of course)

thanks in advance!

Explosions in the sky I think is what you're looking for.

Broken Social Scene's first album, Feel Good Lost, is all meandering guitar instrumentals, though maybe more ambient than what you're looking for:

Guilty Cubicles
Love and Mathematics

And definitely check out Earth:

Old Black
Raiford the Felon Wind
Hung From the Moon

And the Dirty Three, if you feel like having some crazy violin in the mix:

Sue's Last Ride

There are generally vocals, but when I'm looking for long, meandering electric guitar, I often turn to Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Neil Young with Crazy Horse.

Mogwai and Jakob.

Also Godspeed you black emperor, though that's less on the guitar side of things.

Post Rock is a good phrase to search on.
