Day trips from Rome, GA

I'll be flying into Atlanta and staying in the Rome, GA area over Thanksgiving. What parks and other scenic spots are nearby? I'm looking to explore the area on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday, so please provide any day trip (2-3hr max driving time) recommendations. Thanks!
Best answer: There's Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville, which is a resort but is built around the ruins of an old mansion and garden. It's $10 for the tour, which may be more than you're willing to spend. My wife and I stayed there a few years ago on vacation, and really enjoyed touring the grounds.
You're also not that far from Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield, which is where the Atlanta Campaign started.
And you're only about an hour and a half away from Atlanta, and all the wonders it has to offer. You're also about the same distance from Chattanooga, TN, and the big Tennessee Aquarium, along with Chickamauga Battlefield and Lookout Mountain.

Not sure if the Atlanta Botanical Gardens will be having the new light show but that would be a fun evening activity. It is really great and they have a good cafe on sight. Welcome and enjoy!!

This is a specific interest, but the best vintage motorcycle museum in North America is a two-hour drive from Rome in Leeds, AL. The Barber Vintage Motorcycle Museum is heaven on earth for gearheads, and the adjacent racetrack is a work of art unto itself.

Of course Berry College's campus is huge (they claim it's the largest college campus in the world), contains any number of scenic spots, and has a ridiculous deer population, so you're sure to see pretty wildlife if you're into that too.

Best answer: You are about an hour from Lookout Mountain and Desoto State Park. Both have great hiking and pretty scenery.

You'll be less than two hours from the one-of-a-kind Unclaimed Baggage Center.
You can go skydiving in Rockmart, Georgia.

Callaway Gardens. It's not the best time to visit (that would be in late March/early April when the azaleas are blooming) but there are walking trails and a few hiking trails, a Butterfly Center and the Fantasy In Lights show is going on now.
