A House on the Plains

What E. L. Doctorow novels (or anything else) are like A House on the Plains?

I read the short story a decade ago, and I still remember it vividly. However, I have not found any E. L. Doctorow novels that incorporate a similar tone, style, or subject matter. Any ideas which books I should check out?

I followed the link for A House on the Plains and while I don't have a book off hand to recommend you might enjoy the movie Method. It seems to cover the same ground and is based on the life of Belle Gunness.
