So I broke the tank lid on my toilet, where do I get a new one (tank lid that is)?

Our toilet tank lid was dropped (long story) and cracked into many small pieces.

I tried looking up the exact toilet model, but since it's an older model it looks like finding an exact replacement would run well over $100.

As you can see in the photo the tank is nearly flush with the bathroom wall, which makes my online searching a little more difficult since I can't tell on any of the big home improvement store sites whether a lid will be able to fit against the wall. Any ideas on best places to go tank huntin' in the DC area? We don't need an exact match, just something that will fit.

Any recommendations for little hole in the wall plumbing parts shops being a better bet than Home Depot? We don't have a car so near public transit is greatly preferred.

I would just measure the top of the tank and go to Home Depot and buy whatever looks like it will fit. You can return it if you guess wrong.

Sorry, overlooked the part about not having a car - it would be worth borrowing on to visit Community Forklift, though, since they tend to have a lot of stock and it's comparatively cheap.

do you have any tools and scrap lumber? Just cut a nice wooden piece to fit over it, or get a neighborhood handyperson to do it. Or, if you find the inner workings of things interesting, you put put a clear piece of plexiglass over it.

How many is many?

I broke a tank lid into six pieces and used some binary epoxy from my Local Hardware Store and a clamp to put it back together. Of course, I had to do it a piece at a time and the entire repair time was around two weeks (add piece, glue, clamp, wait, repeat) but hey, $5 to repair.

These guys have it all. Get the model and the measurements and call them. I have bought 2 tank lids from them. They seem to have everything.
