Can I get some guidance on commissioning a black velvet painting?
Okay, it's like this. I want to commission a nice, monochrome black velvet painting based on a photograph of a friend of mine, but don't want to spend a huge amount of money, and also have no idea where to start. Does anyone have any recommendations on how or where to get that done, and what sort of price ranges I can expect? I'm in the DC area for local places, but online is fine too.

You might check on etsy for something similar to what you want and then see if the seller would be willing to do a custom painting for you.

Only thing I have to offer is that John Scalzi's infamous black velvet painting of Wesley Crusher was done by VelvetPaintings.com. (With which I have no affiliation.)

I was pleased by both the process and result of working with VelvetPaintings.com on that particular project.

Write to sales@velvetpaintings.com and describe it. If we don't have it already, we can usually find it within a week. If it isn't in Tijuana or perhaps never existed in the first place--You can make it exist by commissioning a custom velvet painting of your very own from one of our many talented Tijuana-based professional Mexican velvet Elvis artists. Perhaps one day, you too can become as loved and respected by the entire art-loving world as the unknown creative force responsible for the popular black velvet masterwork: "Devil-On-The-Can."
