Has anyone had experience with life insurance policy locators?
One of my parents died about a decade ago and left no life insurance, according to the surviving parent. This parent had not been employed for about two decades prior to death. The parent did have life insurance at some point, but stopped paying the premiums (not sure when), and when the parent tried to reapply for life insurance, they were no longer qualified.
I haven't found anything in the state's unclaimed property search. However, I recently learned of MIB Solutions' life insurance policy search (http://www.mibsolutions.com/lost-life-insurance/) and I think there are several similar options out there, judging from a Google search. MIB charges $75 for the search, plus the cost of a death certificate and a notarization. Not a trivial amount, but I think it would be worth the cost of putting me at ease.
Has anyone had experience with these locators, or just any advice? Are there statues of limitation on these things? I'm in California. Thanks.
