From photos to Google Sketchup

We're getting married (yay!) and we've got a location in mind. I want to take pictures so I can do a Google Sketchup model of the location and plan the wedding of our dreams. What's the best way to do this? I don't need centimeter accuracy, but I don't want rough estimates either.

What kind of location? Interior? Exterior?

Response by poster: Glibhamdreck: I live in Peru, there's no detailed satellite images/terrain for my city.

misterbrandt: Exterior, mostly.

I've been thinking on taking a measuring tape or stick of a known measure and taking pictures with it aligned to a wall or something like that.

Best answer: First, ask your contact at the venue if they have floor plans you can start from. Many places do.If they don't, start with a basic paper sketch you draw yourself either in sketch up or by hand.

Secondly, take a measuring tape & a friend and measure the distances you're most concerned about on location. Write those down on your sketch..

Third, take pictures, with measuring tape or stick in the photos.

It's worth it to do some amount of measuring on location because you'll be able to see the quirks and angles for yourself while you're there.
