Cigar recommendations please.

Please recommend cigars / a cigar shop in Vancouver, BC.

Consider very little is known about cigars in general, but a fishing trip has been scheduled and there is some desire for the guys to maybe have a smoke at some point. Vancouver, being the international city that it is, surely has much to offer in this department.

I've not much experience and don't smoke them that often, but I have found that I quite enjoy the Rockey Patel 1990's, described as "Mild to medium bodied; rich, smooth & complex with notes of creamy coffee flavors with nutty undertones & a hint of sweetness."

What other cigars might I like? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, but I'd rather go for quality over quantity. Basically, what's a good, smooth cigar? What other knowledge am I sorely lacking? Something that'll burn for about 30 - 60 minutes. I know that as a US citizen I cannot indulge in Cubans, including while abroad, but feel free to share your knowledge of such, even, as someday the embargo may be lifted.

Best answer: I know nothing about cigars, but I used to walk by City Cigard every day at Oak and W 6th, and it looks and smells nice enough. Apparently voted the best in Vancouver, as well.

Best answer: Was going to recommend the same place. I went there once to get a gift for a friend. It seems very well-stocked and run by people who know their stuff. The best bet would probably be to just go there and ask the staff.

I'm not into "big deal" cigars but if you're concerned about Cubans I've heard that the best have been coming from the Dominican Republic for some time anyway (all the best Cuban rollers having relocated to there).

My personal faves (at least as far as Vancouver availability is concerned) are the more cigarette-sized (and priced) Meharis (the Brasils in particular) or Panters. They can be found in both proper cigar stores and also a number of cooler convenience stores.

Make sure you've got some Port to sip while you're smoking. A damned fine way to spend some time.

Thirding City Cigar. I also picked up a very nice gift for my friend there, with the help of their knowledgeable staff.

Response by poster: Well, turns out we turned left before getting to Vancouver, but I would have gone to City Cigar, had I actually gotten there.
