Quicktime error

Quicktime error message: Quicktime is unable to process this request. The software needed is not located on the Quicktime server. I get this message when trying to play the items in the pop up list from clicking the 'film' link under the first picture at this url: http://www.strandbeest.com/#.

I've tried reinstalling Quicktime, and tried changing the file type under folder options in the control panel to go to Windows Media Player instead. It still goes to Quicktime. All the links in that list I want to watch most end in a double extension reading ".mpg.avi" I wrote to the site owner about it, no response. Others have been able to view with Window Media Player. What can I do?

Avi files do not play well with Quicktime on the mac.Try downloading mPlayer. It can handle many video files that Quicktime chokes on . . .

(I'm assuming you're on the mac altho you didn't specify)

QT is failing because it doesn't have the right codec - and since you're trying to watch it in a browser, you would have to change some preferences to get the video to play in your browser with Windows Media Player. If you post some details about what browser/OS version you're using, I might be able to help.

For now, I would suggest downloading the videos - on a mac, hold down option and click on the video links to download them. You should be able to play the resulting file in Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player - it's a free media player that can handle a lot of different kinds of video that Quicktime chokes on.

Response by poster: Oops! Sorry about the lack of info! I'm on a PC running XP pro and using Firefox 1.0.4.

Hmm, ok. I have the same config that you do on the PC and I was able to play it in Windows Media Player no problem. The extensions are kinda messed up, they really shouldn't be ".mpg.avi" which suggests it's been doubly compressed somehow.

You could still try the VLC Media player for pc from sluggo's link or open windows media player (standalone) first and then play the file directly from there . . .
