Gobble, gobble, gobble, we'll talk turkey to that sun.

I was in a school play when I was in the first grade, in 1976. I would love to know what the play was, so I can find it and read it again!

I don't remember the play's name. It was in a book of collected educational plays for children, I think - I remember seeing hardcover books in the library back then containing similar plays, there would be many of these books in a series, perhaps they came out yearly for teachers or something.

This play I was in was about the Sun. It had gone behind the clouds for some reason and everyone tried to get it to come out again. There was a wheedling Coaxer, and there was a bossy General. I remember the General very well because that's the role I was given (when I so very badly wanted to play the Sun!) The General said things like "We'll lay it on the line! We'll talk turkey to that sun!" and the other characters intoned "Gobble, gobble, gobble, we'll talk turkey to that sun." I don't remember what tactic finally worked, but when the Sun appeared she just said "Howdy!"

This seems a crazy-ass long shot to me, but can anyone help me identify and/or find this play?

Best answer: Is it Sun Up!?

The description: Many years ago It is the end of April and everybody is tired of the constant rain. Everyone wants the sun to come out and dry the rain away. The rest of the play goes through the ways that they try to bring out the sun. First a commander tries to command the sun to come up and fails. Next a coaxer attempts to coax the sun up and fails. Then a witch tries to use a spell to bring the sun up, but all to no avail. Finally Father Time comes and says the sun can only come out on May Day so he moves time and the sun comes out. This play is a cute way to teach younger children about the seasons and patience. The set is very simple in design it just needs to represent the outdoors. The costumes consist of rain gear and umbrellas with bright summer clothes underneath.

I can't find it in print anywhere, but with the title, maybe a librarian can do so.

Response by poster: I just checked, my public library has it sitting on the shelf! Claire Boiko, Children's plays for creative actors; a collection of royalty-free plays for boys and girls, 1967. Yay!
