The music ... of your life ...

What is this awesome piece of easy listening music?

Somebody in my neighborhood is doing a low-power radio station, looping some truly excellent old-school "music of your life" easy listening. I can tell it's a neighborhood person because the range is so small, I've never once heard a human voice, and it's pretty obvious that it's a reasonably small playlist (i.e. the guy's personal stash of a couple 100 mp3s).

This song comes up fairly regularly and I'm eager to know what it is - it has a melody that is vaguely familiar, and it also has a keyboard sound in it that feels pretty unusual for the period. Any ideas? (Sound quality is terrible because it was recorded into my iPhone while driving through the reception area.)

According to Soundhound, it's Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus by Serge Gainsbourg, although this is clearly an instrumental version.

Hmm, Here's an instro version

In fact, pick your 99 cent poison, the song has been covered hundreds of times:

If you're not hearing any voices, you're not hearing the top-40 hit version (and some might say you're missing the most important part).

Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus is probably the sexist piece of pop music ever recorded, it's anything but easy listening.

For future reference if somebody checks this thread - the original "Top 40" version of the controversial song is the one released in 1969 by Serge Gainsbourg and (a very young) Jane Birkin. The only "real" version if you're a true fan of Gainsbourg.

Actually, the BBC Concert Orchestra recorded a fairly popular instrumental version, which very well could have been the "easy listening" version the OP heard on the low-power radio station.

IMO, one of the great songs of the 60's - but it's one of those timeless classics that sounds current even today.

Trivia: Actress Charlotte Gainsbourg (City Of Your Destination and others) is the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin.
