After spending a cool $thou on 'general maintenance' from the dealer, I'm seeking an Atlanta-area mechanic/shop that would work on my 97 Infiniti I30 (which is mechanically near-exact to the Nissan Maxima). I'm really looking for an indie mechanic with whom you might have personal experience.

I always went to Clarke's auto repair - run by this nice guy (Ivor, I'm not sure about the spelling) from trinidad and tobagio. He doesn't want to f*** you over like most car mechanics and he knows his stuff very well. He's very personable too. It's in decatur though, so I don't know if that's close to you or not.

I knew some guys out in Carrollton, but that'll be too far to go, unless you are out that way already. I'll try to find the name, if you want.

I should point out that it's like 20 minutes from downtown, which for atlanta is close

Best answer: The NPR show CarTalk, has a review/ratings site called MechanX files which is a great place to start.

Here are three shops that specialize in Nissans with good reviews there.

Broderick's Foreign Car Service over in Decatur, Pro Auto service over in Doraville and Pete's
in Atlanta proper.

I used Pete's Import Garage when I lived in Atlanta, and I would definitely recommend them.

I've been very happy with Automotive Professionals. They've actually talked me out of having some work done on my car. How's that for honesty?

Ask for Sandy.

I've had good experiences with Catherine's Auto Repair, as have many of my coworkers. One location at Piedmont & I-85 and another at 14th & Northside.
