how to find a cleaning service/personal helper remotely

Can you recommend a cleaning service or personal helper for a couple with a new baby in Albuquerque, NM?

Some close friends have their hands full with their first-born, but sadly, I'm thousands of miles away and can't drop by with food and support. I want to find a) a reputable cleaning service in ABQ, and b) someone who can be hired to do things that a cleaning service usually doesn't do, like load/wash dishes, change cat litter, pick up groceries.

I don't know the best way to find either of these remotely and prefer personal recommendations so my wife and I can chip in to help them out. Help me, hivemind!

Best answer: I can't recommend anyone specific, but a title for this type of person would be "postpartum doula." there are a few different organizations that certify doulas, CAPPA and DONA are the two major ones.

A professional pet sitter would probably be good for the cat litter (as well as feeding the cats and giving them some attention if they're sociable). Most veterinarians' offices have good recommendations. Do you think it would be possible to ask the dad or another close friend/family member who their vet is, or even if they have a pet sitter they usually go with?

In my experience they should have no problem coming over for "pet-sitting" duties even if people are at home but otherwise unable to do the work.

Response by poster: I can certainly ask either of the parents to give me info, I had hoped to not bother them about this. I may try asking their regular pet sitter, who is a friend of theirs (their kitty has issues, don't ask).

I may look into the postpartum doola thing.

Thanks!
