What to do in Burlington next Tuesday?

Next Tuesday in Burlington, VT? Or on the road from and to Montreal?
We have to pick up my stepkid in Burlington on Tuesday, and then drive back to Montreal. What are fun things to do in and around Burlington in the dead of winter? Or along the way from and to Montreal?
We like history and art and forts. Alas, the Shelburne Museum is closed.

This is slightly off-topic, but if you are going to Burlington, I highly recommend you eat at Burlington Hearth (aka American Flatbread, aka this amazing pizza place/brewery). It's just off the pedestrian mall a little ways - easy to walk to if you are in the downtown area.

Lake Champlain Maritime Mueum and the Fleming Museum are likewise closed, they're generally both neat. Not sure how old your stepkid is but there's a neat little one hour program at ECHO about snow, build an indoor snowman, that sort of thing. Tuesday looks like it will be cold and snowy. If you're birder types, you can call these people and see if you can get a tour. It's not quite on the way but seems sort of interesting. Probably not that interesting if you're not into birds.
If you like local VT history you can go to UVM and go to the Bailey Howe library and their special collections department and look through paper files of some of the towns. I enjoy digging around in there and seeing old paper money from the 1700s and other old history stuff. The public library has free wireless but not necessarily a lot going on on Tuesdays. The Firehouse Gallery is right downtown on the ped mall and often has neat stuff showing there. The whole pad mall area there is nice with a bunch of shops facing an open walking area. Good for getting a cup of coffee or something to eat without being stranded somewhere outside in the bitter cold. The parking garages are also terribly inexpensive if you're used to real city prices. Burlington College supposedly has a nice gallery [there's a cool exhibit about the Black Panthers starting Jan 19th] but I can't find out what's showing there now.
