Help me identify this painting!
I am not sure when it was made or where it came from. Not sure if it is an original or a reproduction.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I realize it may be extremely difficult to identify what this specific piece is, but if you have thoughts about when it was made or who the artist might be, I'd love to know what you think.
I will be happy to provide any further details that I can, just let me know.

My mom bought a fancy painting one time and we determined that it was a copy of one of the Dutch masters. She did some research and found that it was common for apprentice painters to practice by making copies of paintings previously done by masters. (Hers was on canvas; the original was painted on a round piece of wood.)
Plus, if back then you wanted a given painting and couldn't buy it, this kind of copy was your only choice. So apparently there are a lot of those around, and they're not considered (and weren't intended to be) forgeries.

Response by poster: We used some various different Photoshop techniques on the signature and believe that it says "Stekke". So right now we think this painting was done by an artist named Marguerite Stekke, who lived between 1886-1962 and actually did this kind of painting (oil). We don't have much more to go on. We are trying to decide whether it is worth restoring. The photo looks much better than the painting actually looks (because of the flash). The painting is very dark from being in storage.

It appears to be a very accurate reproduction and the size of the painting is the same as the original. The signature is barely discernible. (Not Titian though, of course.)
