What do with one Monday afternoon/early evening (tomorrow) in Buffalo?

We are heading to Buffalo tomorrow for one day to visit Martin House. Arriving from Toronto at 9:30am and our tour will be finished by noon, so we have an afternoon and early evening to spend in Buffalo (our bus back to Toronto leaves downtown at 8pm).

Some of things we wanted to see such Albright Knox are unfortunately closed on Mondays.

I have read a couple of other posts such as:

and

We are open to hiring a car (have been to the falls before) and really want to avoid the grim weather (indoor activities are preferable).

Best answer: Honestly? I basically only go to Buffalo to go shopping (cheaper and more choice [at least for lower-end stuff] than in Toronto). Plus, hello outlets. I've also caught the odd hockey game (much cheaper than a Leafs game!). The downtown is kind of neat to look at, lots of gothic(?) style architecture.

If you like Cajun & Creole food, check out Chester's. I crave their crawfish on a regular basis. Or Chef's for Italian... their Spaghetti Parmesean (spaghetti, red sauce, then covered with mozzarella cheese and baked) sounds gross, but is actually really tasty (in an artery-clogging way). Don't forget a meatball or 2! I also have a weird love of Mighty Taco, even though I never eat mexican north of the border, never mind fast-food mexican.

I'd definitely recommend renting a car though. It's cold in Buffalo, and things seem to be really spread out. Everytime I've gone, it's been in a car, so I can't speak to how efficient transit is.

I think miss_kitty_fantastico did a good job of recommending restaurants, though I'd also suggest hitting Anchor Bar or Duff's for wings. Also go see the the other Wright houses around. Skating at Rotary Rink at Fountain Plaza (if it's open). It's really short drive to Niagara Falls, but my god we're getting buried with snow AGAIN, so driving anywhere is going to be terrible. Go sledding at Chestnut Ridge Park. Go to the top of Buffalo City Hall.

If you get a car, take a drive down the Buffalo Skyway / Route 5 from downtown. It gives a view from up high of a decaying industrial landscape and, to me at least, is absolutely gorgeous. (I'm usually just driving through, and stop at Koz's Pizza Alley in Hamburg for really good wings.)

Buffalo used to be a really big port for grain. You can take a driving tour of Buffalo's grain elevators, which are now mostly abandoned.
