Can you recommend some music that I would like? I buy used vinyl records, and am looking to expand my collection to include artists I may not yet be familiar with.

I enjoy listening to:

Kenny Loggins
Fleetwood Mac
Phil Collins/Genesis
Christopher Cross
Michael Jackson
Foreigner
Stevie Wonder
Pink Floyd
Elton John
Styx
Crosby, Stills & Nash
George Harrison
Simon & Garfunkel

and other such music from the 70s/80s.

You're looking for music available on vinyl, correct? From that era specifically, or from any era?

The Alan Parsons Project, implying: Year of The Cat by Al Stewart.

All of this stuff sounds swell on vinyl. It sounds like you have a lot to listen to already.

I should note that The Mountain Goats is a modern band.

A period accurate artist that I really think you'll enjoy is Nick Drake.

Might be a stretch, but the new album by Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Before Today, could be a weird little fit in your lp collection.

A tip: You can use Spotify to explore artists and music you don't know. Their free account allows 20 hours of listening.

Best answer: Your interest in George Harrison makes me think you might like some Electric Light Orchestra, Ronnie Lane (including his record with Pete Townshend), Badfinger, and Big Star. I know these all used to be abundantly available on vinyl, but I can't say for sure if they are still.

Get some Warren Zevon. Start off with Excitable Boy and then The Wind. The latter is the record he made after he discovered he had terminal mesothelioma and was going to die very soon. It's some powerful stuff.

Also, he sounds great on vinyl, at least in my experience.

Response by poster: Yes, available on vinyl. It doesn't have to be that era. Lots of great suggestions so far! Thanks to all.

I might be going too soft-rock, but your list made me think of Chris de Burgh.
