iTunes movies streamed without an Apple TV?

How to make an iTunes-purchased film stream to my Xbox 360 or PS3?

I've purchased a movie from iTunes, and I'm trying to get it to stream to my TV. I think my primary problem is the iTunes DRM.

I tried both Rivet and MediaLink. Both my PS3 and my Xbox can see Rivet, but they don't see any movies - same problem with MediaLink and the PS3.

Tools at my disposal: I've got a PS3, an Xbox 360, a PC, and a MacBook Pro. But not an Apple TV.

If the only way to do this is with an Apple TV, then I'll pick one up this weekend. But I'd love to watch Alien tonight. I know this is possible! But how?

I don't know if Requiem works yet, but you might give that a try.

There might be a way to circumvent this, but my guess is that you're probably screwed by, as you've rightly guessed, the DRM. If you've got a laptop, and time permits it, you could try getting a cable to connect it directly to your TV. Not that you can't do this with a desktop, obviously, it'll just be a bit less practical. I haven't tried this myself, but the only limiting factor is likely to be HDCP (or more specifically, HDCP being boneheaded).

Response by poster: BP, Requiem looks promising, but it doesn't appear to have been updated in a while.

Jaffacakerhubarb - that's a good idea.

What inputs does your TV have? Maybe it's possible to hook the MacBook Pro directly to it?

I don't know about the PS3 or Xbox, but you can definitely just get a cable to hook the Macbook up the the TV with. You probably need something like this (although you should check your connections*), and if your Macbook is pretty new that's it. If it's older you'll also need an audio cable.

*Don't be like me and think you need the mini displayport, when you really need the displayport.

Vuze will let you stream video from your Mac to your 360. It's free and I've done it several times.
