Any know how to manually light an old Whirlpool Cleantop oven?

I have an old (1997) Whirlpool Cleantop oven (model # SF317PEAW2). I believe the igniter is no longer working (well I am pretty sure it does not work). I got the manual for the oven. Iit states that one should not attempt to manually light the oven. One can manually light the burners, which I have done.

So before I go around waving a match in the oven, does anyone know how I should light this oven? There is no pilot light, it appears to be all electronic. The oven runs off of propane (I live in the boonies) and there is half a tank of propane sitting there.

I know I should get a repair person, but honestly it is an old oven, the house is a rental, I use the oven about once or twice a year. I don't want to bug my landlord, since he very kindly just rebuilt the house decks and had the house painted. I rather bug my landlord when he forgets about all the money he just put into the house.

So, do I just stick a long match in the broiler?

It may not release the gas if the igniter isn't working. Are you sure there is power to the stove?
Be very careful if do try with a match, there may be a small explosion if there is some gas in the broiler before you stick the match in there.

You're setting yourself up for a Darwin award here. Call your landlord. Issues like this are quite literally at the top of any landlord's "job description."

It might be safe, and it might be not (as indicated by the manual and lack of pilot light). You don't want to blow up the house that your landlord just spent so much money rebuilding.

It isn't that difficult to replace an ignitor, but they run about $30 to $50, so I would advise you to get your landlord to fix it.

There is definitely a safety valve that will not turn the gas on if the ignitor won't turn on, as lee mentions.
