What's the deal w/ the small vents in the new batting helmets?

Anyone know if the small vents/windows atop the new 'Dark Helmet' batting helmets in use in MLB by some players (and all during this All Star game) provide structural integrity, or what the deal is with them?

It's weird to see Torii Hunter's bald head through the small vents in his helmet.

Probably it's to allow sweat to evaporate away.

There's an additional padding component to the new helmet that creates an insulation inside the helmet; the vents are there to allow air to flow and the player to avoid overheating in them.
