Books about the influential people the world has never heard of?

I recently read a GQ article about World Wide Wes, supposedly the most connected main in the NBA. Despite being a semi-publicly known figure, no one really knows who he works for and what he does.

Where can I read about more people like WWW, the shadows behind the scenes who? I’d prefer books but am open to anything articles or videos if necessary.

while no specific title recommendations, try browsing the biography section of your local public library. i'm always amazed at what i find there.

Banvard's Folly - most of the people in it were very influential in their day, but totally obscure now.

Ursula Nordstrom's letters (Dear Genius). She edited many of the most important English-language children's books of the twentieth century. Blew my mind every twenty pages as I started thinking of childhood classics (Trumpet of the Swan, for example) being made by people. And she was amazing at coaching, criticizing, and cajoling creative people from afar.
