Edgy hairdressers in Vancouver?

Looking for a good, weird-hairdo-friendly hairdresser in Vancouver BC to give me an undercut.

I'm fairly new to Vancouver, and, moreover, don't know much about haircuts since I typically go to cheap hairdressers or DIY it.

However, I'm planning on getting an undercut (long hair with it shaved underneath) and I want to get a real hairdresser to do it the first time. I don't trust myself to shave it evenly and symmetrically, and having once walked out of Great Clips with crooked bangs, I don't trust the $12 hairdressers to give me anything more than a trim.

Any recommendations? I need some place that is 1) decent, 2) reasonably affordable (under $50?), 3) open to "edgy" cuts (i.e. preferably not an old-lady kind of place).

Thanks!

Check out Chop Shop. They have locations downtown on Granville Street, and on Commercial Drive. Definitely open to edgy cuts!

I go to On The Fringe in the student union building at UBC. It's a proper salon with good stylists; they cater to students and should thus be okay with a wide range of styles, and are also quite affordable, in the $25 to $30 range for regular jobs. They have a place on Main St too that is marginally more expensive.

ps welcome to Vancouver :)

I have a friend in Vancouver, BC. She is quite good, and will give you the personal attention you want. Since I don't want to blast askme with "my fri3nd is so gr8!!" talk, you're welcome to gmail or email me for specifics.

But she's so gr8. ;)

Bangtown! & ask for Chenoa; she cuts hair for lots of queers & punks. If you want it a little more fancy & sculpted, Missy at Coup is your answer. Both places are going to be around 45-50, though. Once you make DIY-ish friends around here I'm sure you'll be able to get lots of good free haircuts.
