Stephen King book title

I am looking for the title of a Stephen King book.

I read it several years ago, so I am guessing that it was published in the '90s. I don't remember much, but I think that the main character was an author who had recently lost his wife.

One of the scenes places the main character at his cabin in the woods where he goes for a swim and hallucinates a face that turns out to only be a strange configuration of leaves. There is also a some sort of side story about a racially motivated murder of a woman that took place somewhere around his cabin.

With any normal author, I would just take a look through a list of works they had published, but with King that would take me an hour. Any help would be appreciated.
