Dinner recommendations in Towson MD?

Mrs COD and myself will be in Towson MD Friday night for a concert. (Rechert Theater for you locals). Since we live on the south side of the DC area, the plan to beat traffic is to head up Friday afternoon and find someplace for dinner before the concert. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on dinner...$30-$40 for dinner for 2 is about the right range. Any recommendations in the area? A local brewpub with good food would be ideal. I'm not completely opposed to the idea of dining in the Inner Harbor area, but traffic and parking hassles don't make it my first choice. Thanks!

Walking distance from the Recher is a mall with a number of chain restaurants attached. There's also in that area Thai One On/San Sushi Too, which I loved when I was living in the area. If I were you, I think I'd head there early & park in the mall garage before eating nearby, but YMMV & the parking situation may have changed since I was there 5+ years ago.

Do you like sushi? I came in here to recommend Sushi Hana, which I loved when I lived in Baltimore. And, it's right next to the theatre.

If you walk south along York, there's a good array of non-mall restaurants. If I were you, I would definitely stay in Towson and not bother dealing with the traffic going to/from the harbor on a Friday night.

Don't go to the Harbor. There are plenty of good restaurants in Towson-- like Tooty McTootsalot said, you'll find plenty of options just by walking a couple blocks south on York Road. For some reason, sushi seems to be overrepresented, but there's a decent Chinese joint and an Irish pub, among others. Sushi Hana is excellent but on the expensive side.

For what it's worth, when I go to the Recher I usually park in the "sunken" lot by Trader Joe's.

I'll chip in a word for Cafe Spice, which is on York Rd. just two blocks south of the Recher and across the street. Great Indian food, and the family that runs the place treats you like you're guests in their home.

The advice here is great. I came to third Thai One On/San Sushi Too. It's my default for Towson casual dining. Cafe Spice and Sushi Hana are good alternatives. I've also enjoyed 7 West, at 7 W. Chesapeake, which is about 2 blocks south of the Recher.

There is plenty in Towson. If you go too far south on York Road, into the city, you may run into a lot of traffic (and probably me!) at Belvedere Square, south of York Road. There is a summer concert series there with outdoor dining and (ahem) boozing, and traffic gets sluggish. I recommend you avoid it - info here.

Come to think of it, the Towson Feet on the Street summer concert series apparently has started, too, so that could make access into Towson, and parking, a bit tricky. Info here. There is outdoor dining and beer there... that might be an alternative to a restaurant, or at least a place to kill time before the show?

(Maybe we need a Towson meetup at Thai One On/San Sushi Too!)

Going to have to throw in a recommendation for Paper Moon Diner, about 15 minutes from the Recher in northern Baltimore, right by the Hopkins Campus (the college campus, not the medical facility).

It's a freaky little diner with some typical and not-so-typical diner fare. Mannequins and dolls heads all over the walls, old 1950's children's books as menu covers, etc. The food isn't mind blowing, but it's solid and cheap and it's a quirky little spot worth visiting because it's a fun and eclectic sort of place. I don't remember if they serve beer.

As a warning, the Friday rush hour is inching earlier and earlier as the summer approaches. It was in full force by 2:30 last week.

Hands down, the best local brewpub with good food in the Baltimore area is the Brewer's Art. But parking in Mount Vernon is a pain, and traffic won't be much fun - also, you'll want the bar rather than restaurant for your price range, and getting a table is a bit of crapshoot around happy hour/dinner. The Hamilton Tavern serves some of the same beers and food as Brewer's, and is arguably closer to Towson (geographically closer, but Brewer's is convenient to 83, which Hamilton is not) - both places get crowded for dinner/happy hour, and I find Hamilton Tavern gets particularly loud. But if you're after craft beer and good food, one of those two is the way to go.

Sushi Hana and San Sushi Too are solid recommendations in the immediate area around the Recher. As an alternative to the Paper Moon (which is a cool joint, definitely), consider - The Dizz. The beer is nothing out of the ordinary, but they usually have a solid selection available, and the food is good and not expensive.

I've not yet found particularly edible food in Towson, and, yes, I've been to Sushi Hana.

In that price range, I'd be tempted by the B&O Brasserie. It is in downtown Baltimore, has $5 valet parking and has great steak frites. When I'm feeling more adventurous, the other entrees are interesting and, no matter how odd sounding some of the combinations are, all the ones I've had worked well. The deserts are extremely good. It would be on the upper side of your range, though.
