Recommendations for voice recognition software?

I need to buy voice recognition software for someone I supervise. I want to provide him with a range of options to choose from, but also informed opinions on the pros/cons of each. What have been people's experiences with the various brands out there?

I don't have any personal experience, but David Pogue, the NY Times technology columnist, claims that Dragon NaturallySpeaking is both the best and the only real option out there.

For us Mac users, I noticed on their website that they sell ViaVoice. Is that equivalent, or are they two completely different products with different performances?
