Embedding Excel into Word

Embedding linked Excel 2003 worksheets in a Word 2003 document for portability is giving me pains! [mi!]

OK, so I have a large Word document that has the embedding links like so:

{ LINK Excel.Sheet.8 “C:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\My Documents\\animals.xls” “Sheet1!R1C1:R4C2” \a \p }

But, if this file is moved to another location, the link is broken. I tried changing the path to %cd%, but that failed. Is there anyway to have a variable path in OLE links?

Many thanks in advance!

can you keep them in the same directory and change “C:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\My Documents\\animals.xls” to "animals.xls"? (I haven't used this and may be missing something)

It looks like changing the name will work for one move, but the link reverts to the exact location and name after that...

Response by poster: Yep, I just found that out. Google's being pretty much no help, which is why I came here. Thanks for the input, though!
