My mum wants a large letter (an E) for her kitchen wall. Any ideas where I can get one to the UK?
She's wanted one since she saw the kitchen in My Family, but as I don't watch that show I'm not sure what it looks like. It needs to be something that will withstand cleaning (so no fabric) and I think she'd prefer traditional rather than unusual. This was the closest I could find, but the store had sold out of the Es, it didn't look too well made, and I feel a bit grubby shopping in Urban Outfitters. Can anyone help? I'm in London/Reading but mail order is OK.

There's these on the John Lewis website - I haven't seen them in the shop though.

Not on the high street seem to offer a large selection for you.

You can try calling the people at Elemental in Spitalfields. I always see big letters for sale there.

Response by poster: Tried Etsy and couldn't see anything. The Next one was an idea, but I dont' want to have to buy a whole set and then end up with three useless objects.

Response by poster: Oh, US Amazon often doesn't ship to the UK if it's third-party retailers; if they do, costs can be punitive. Whcih is a pain as I'm always seeing interesting things on there...

Etsy can do this. You want to post an Alchemy request for a laser-cut vinyl wall decal. I just got 100 of these for another project and they are very, very cheap. Simply specify in the listing: a) the font b) the approximate colour c) the height d) that this is for delivery in the UK.

Places which specialize in shop signs would have what you are looking for. And they could also fabricate a specific typeface for you also.

Architectural Salvage dealers have these, recovered from old shops and all rustic and distressed, or sometimes just rusty.

Response by poster: I don't want a decal - I think what she's after is a wooden or metal letter. I'll check out bluefly's link now :)

I happened to see these letters last night. You might also try Anthropologie on Regent's Street, they've got lots of stuff with letters on, maybe something like this (prices are different in the actual shop).

Any woodworker (a cabinet maker is probably your best bet) will cut you one from any nice piece of wood. Likewise any of those "laser/plasma cutting" places that make trophies and shop signs can cut one from wood or even metal.
Just print one out at the actual size in the font of your choice, and walk around asking.
Advantage is that you can stain and finish it to match the room, if you wish.

Retrouvius is currently selling some reclaimed fibreglass letters, or Re-found Objects can offer you a choice of cardboard or 'rusty metal'
I've seen some smaller resin letters, about 6in high on sale in some gift shops but I can't remember for the life of me what the range is called...will try to dredge it up from the depths.

(oops - the resin letters are the ones from featherboa's link. Alpha Art is the name, but a quick google wasn't much help)
