Camera on Cameron

Did James Cameron work on Halo?
So recently James Cameron has been quoted as saying "The funniest thing is when some of the so-called fanboys get up trashing Avatar for looking too much like Halo... It's like...pay attention. If I'm referencing anything, I'm referencing the source work for Halo, which is my own stuff. So I get to do that. Nobody else gets to do that, but I get to do that. My rule, anyway." (source)
And yet I can't really find his name connected to any of the Halo games. So therefore I'm curious: In what sense he means the source work for Halo is his "own stuff"?

I think he means Halo is based on his earlier work.

Best answer: The lineage of artistic influence seems to be: Aliens --> Halo --> Avatar
(g4tv.com) I.e. the "source work for Halo" is Aliens.
And there are some articles discussing the director's background in set design.

If Cameron had worked on Halo, you can bet it would be called "James Cameron Presents: HALO."

Yeah, you're misreading the quote. He's asking how anyone accuse him of copying Halo when Halo so clearly copies from Aliens... which is his work.

I can pretty much guarantee you, as someone with ex-Microsoft pals, former cowworkers at Lightstorm, and a husband who was on the Titanic crew: No, Cameron didn't do any work on Halo.

Cameron did do a lot of work for Avatar with WETA, who were also doing design work for the Halo movie that fell through. But that was a separate production. As everyone else said, ALIENS is the source work.

And plenty of the Halo material WETA developed was very conspicuously (and very well) adapted into District 9.
