Things will be great when you're downtown (Raleigh)

Raleigh Filter: I'm searching for a rental apartment in downtown Raleigh and would love some firsthand input.

Since there are a goodly number of Triangle-area MeFites, I'd thought I'd ask here...

I'm looking for a new rental apartment and I'm intrigued by living in downtown Raleigh. I've been investigating on-line and by driving around different areas, but I have no firsthand knowledge of any of the downtown apartment complexes, so I'm hoping some MeFites might.

My wish list:
-- I have an issue about living on the ground floor and health problems that sometimes make stairs problematic, so a multi-storied building WITH an elevator is my #1 requirement.
-- I'd love something with some character and maybe a little funky, but I realize that may not be possible while living in a building modern enough to have an elevator.
-- Being surrounded by a good walking neighborhood would be a great bonus.
-- I'm a single 50-year-old female, so a safe neighborhood and an area with other middle-aged (ahem) folks would be more desirable than an area that is primarily students and young families.
-- Pretend price is no obstacle; I want to learn about everything, even if it is ultimately out of my price range.
-- Although downtown is very appealing to me, I'd also love to hear about any great elevator buildings in other areas of the Triangle, if they are something I should consider.

Thanks for any knowledge you can share about elevator apartments in the Raleigh area!

How very strange. I haven't been on AskMeFi in forever, but I just got the iPhone app. First question I see is this one. I live in Downtown Raleigh (in a duplex in Oakwood). Your criteria is tricky (not the first floor AND with an elevator). I didn't have an answer for you, but my boyfriend is here, and he suggested this place:

Hope it helps.

I know that the Wedgewood Apartments has an elevator, and is within walking distance of Cameron Village - I don't know if that's the area you want or if the style is right.

West at North is a new building - all condo but there might be a unit or two offered as rental.

I know 510 Glenwood has units for rent. I'm not positive about an elevator, but it's a modern 5 story building, so I think it probably does.

The Raleigh apartments I lust after (although they don't have an elevator) are Willowwood. Just freaking gorgeous, that's all.

Go Downtown Raleigh has a list of downtown residential rental complexes, although I don't know how complete it is. Unfortunately, the individual listings give you no information on facilities for, say, Boylan, Cameron Court or Capital Apartments, all of which look like they might be tall enough, but I can't tell for sure.
