Freeware DVD Player

Please help me find dvd player software.
I'm looking for a non-Windows Media Player version of a dvd player for my computer. I'm running Windows XP and it would be great if the player was free. I googled what I'm looking for but the number of options was overwhelming so personal recommendations are most appreciated. Thanks!

Best answer: +1 for VLC. Contrary to the previous poster, I have found it very user-friendly, but YMMV.

Media Player Classic or Media Player Classic Home Cinema with ffdshow-tryouts as a backend. More flexibility than any sane human being will ever need, but rock-solid and allows more processing options than VLC for e.g. hard telecined NTSC DVDs, external fan-made subtitles, etc.

Yeah, if you're looking for free, VLC is the way and the light. I find it to be fairly not-user-friendly as well, but if you're just looking to play a DVD, that's pretty easy business. I think the problem is largely that it can do so much - you start going down the rabbit hole and you can find yourself in a mess of menus that make no sense.
Stick to "Open Disc.." and you should be OK.

another VLC fan here.
i've never had to go hunting for a codec when playing a video file on VLC, and it handles DVDs just fine.

Another thumbs up for Media Player Classic here. Whats cool about it also is that its just one file. No installation, no package..nada.. just a 5mb file that does it all.

VLC. It occasionally has memory leaks, but otherwise a very solid player for Windows that is free.

three pieces of software, two of which were previously mentioned :
VLC + Media Player Classic (with the k-lite codec pack) + KMPlayer
you will never encounter a piece of media you are unable to play with those three.
