whatever happened to the "earlier auctions" function on ebay? can't seem to find it.

I think you're looking for "completed auctions." It's on the left, down a little, with a checkbox next to it.

Are you looking for an auction that has ended? If so look for "completed listings" under "refine search" on the left-hand side.
