How do I make my guitar sound like the band Chrome (sample 1, sample 2, sample 3)
I love this band. So much so that I recorded a soundalike track not too long ago. Listening to that track, I got the spirit of their music right, but the guitar sound is way too crunchy (and the drums sound too blown out, but that's another thing entirely.)
There's this insanely tinny, almost alien sound to their guitars on two albums in particular: Half Machine Lip Moves and Alien Soundtracks.
I'm looking to get that wicked U.F.O. guitar solo sound from the 2nd half of example 1, and more generally the sound of example 2 and 3. I can tell they're using a phase shifter or something like that. But what am I missing? How can I achieve that otherworldly sound?
Thanks,
Alex

Response by poster: Holy shit! You just blew a brother's mind, Beautiful Screaming Lady. Watching the video, the square wave, combined with a phase shifter and a fuzz box would get at exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!
