Los Angeles, I'm yours - Going to be in LA for the next couple of days Wed and Thursday. Please help us figure out what we should be doing. (More details inside)
Going to LA for a wedding, but a buddy and I will be in LA a couple of days early. We are looking for activities for two single, late twenties guys can do. Trying to decide if we should stay in Downtown or Hollywood? Need recommendations for restaurants, lounges/bars, comedy clubs etc to check out at night, and day time activities were we might be able to cause some trouble at; (Heard the Standard pool is a fun party on Sundays but is it any good on Wed-Thursday). Any other options? Thank you LAfites :)

The Edison downtown is a really cool 20's style bar/lounge, probably the most impressive I've been to in LA. It's set up like a speakeasy with just a door in an alley, but inside it is gigantic with an old power company aesthetic. I believe during the week at some point they have a happy hour where they roll their cocktail prices down to 35 cents, what they would be in the 1920's depression era.
Roscoes Chicken and Waffles is a must also; make sure you go after midnight to get the ideal Roscoes experience.

Don't think the Standard will be anything like the weekends. If you decide to stay downtown, try La Cita on thurs. Its a mexican restaurant that turns into a bar/dance thing at night.

The Standard (the one downtown) on weekdays is fairly relaxed, but you do get a lot of the young professionals coming in for drinks every night after work (they often come in bigger groups). There's a good little whisky bar called Seven Grand downtown. The Engine Company has solid fare, but the bar is usually filled with the older after-work crowd.
You might want to spend a night just bar-hopping Sunset strip - the area starting at Doheny and moving eastward up the street. It won't be as crowded as it would be on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, but that's actually a good thing. You can see what's up at the Roxy, the Whisky-a-Go-Go, the Laugh Factory or the Viper Room. The Standard on Sunset might be more fun on a weeknight than the one downtown.
I'm fairly "meh" about Hollywood, but that's because I'm not hep to the cool happenings out there; somebody around here can give you good advice on that area. I like Hollywood for its late night Thai food (in Thai Town). Is the Derby (featured in Swingers) in Hollywood?

Downtown, Drago Centro is new, good, but accessible and Bottega Louie has great gourmet pizzas and other light stuff. La Cita's good for late-night Mexican and light party, but Babita's or 5 Puntos is probably better food. The Edison (in an old power plant) is kind of neat.
Drunk bowling at LA Live is always good, as is a midnight In-n-Out anywhere.
Dodgers are at home Tuesday and Wednesday. Manny needs attention.
