Have Mercy

Help me find a version of the song "Mercy" I heard on the radio.
Yesterday, I heard a southwesterny Calexico-like song with a female singer on a local college radio station. I googled the line of lyrics "There's no Mercy in Your Eyes," and it turns out the song is called 'Mercy" and performed by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, although I don't know if it's an original of theirs or a cover they do. Anyway, I want to find the version I heard yesterday. Who sings it? Anyone know? Thanks.

Ooops, just realised you heard a female singer and the ones I'm seeing are male singers ... Sorry.

Response by poster: I just realized the question's not real clear. I'm looking for the female sung verison of the song, which sounds nothing like BRMC.

Youtube is usually the best way to check out versions of songs you hear on the radio—it's so popular that just about any song is on there somewhere.
If it's a female singer, well, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club doesn't have one. This is their original version of the song. I don't think it's been covered at all—not that I can discover, anyhow.
The only song I can find that's sung by a woman and includes the phrase “there's no mercy in your eyes” is “Be Mine” by somebody named Robyn; unfortunately, I don't think it's the one you're looking for, but it's worth a guess.
Does the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club tune at least sound like the one you heard?

Most stations, even puny college stations, publish their playlists online. You might try that.

Another thought -- Why not call the radio station that played it and ask who sings it?

So…is it the same song at all? Because I don't think anybody's covered that song.

It's definitely the same song.

Response by poster: Also, the station in question has no playlist online, and I did call the station. No dice. Ask Metafilter is my last hope.

I immediately thought of Duffy - Mercy, but it's a completely different song with the same name.
