Should I switch over to the new Post 9/11 GI Bill?

I'm using the current GI Bill. I still have 26 months or so left with it. I attend Arizona State full time. I get about $1300 a month which I use for car note and rent. I use grants/school loans to pay tuition and books.

Should I sign up for the new Post 9/11 GI Bill?

From what I understand it will pay my tuition 100% and give me $1300 every month.

I feel like I may be missing something in fine print.

I've read the information on gibill.va.gov, but was hoping for some first hand accounts?

No one will really know until it officially starts August 1st. My response to the new G.I. Bill was that it was too good to be true as well. I was told that it wasn't, they were just finally paying out well deserved money.

If you have a veteran's rep on campus I would recommend talking to them about your worries. Mine was really helpful and as interested in it as me when I considered switching.

Need to know more about your situation - how much service did/do you have after 9/11? Did you pay the kicker for the MGIB? Are you still in, either in a reserve capacity or a commissioning program? Are you an Arizona resident? Lots of variables here.

Sidebar: I would be wary about broadcasting the fact that you're using MGIB funds for non-educational purposes.
