LA now

Los Angeles now: in town for a week and want to eat, shop, relax at the best new places.
I'm from LA so I know all the basics, but what's come up in the past year or so that I should not miss? Particularly interested in restaurants, bars, boutiques, galleries, unique events.
I'm in North Hollywood but travel easily.

I dunno how recent the bars/restaurants with craft beer (whatever that means) explosion is, but if you like a tasty assortment of beers, you might want to check out the beer blast list of what's on tap at an assortment of places around the city.
Speaking of explosions, there's the whole roaming food trucks that twitter their location thing.
If you like wine, the tasting in Barndall Park this Friday seems fairly awesome (it will even have one of those roaming food trucks for bonus zeitgeist!).

Not sure how recently you mean by "new" but Boneyard Bistro opened in Sherman Oaks in 2005 and is excellent for BBQ-type southern cuisine with a kick-ass beer and wine list. Also nearby is Brats Brothers if you like bratwurst.
My favorite new place is downtown: the "exotic sausage grill" Wurstküche. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.
I guess it almost goes without saying, but Kogi is really hot right now...but expect lines upwards of two hours, if the rumors I'm hearing are correct. As mentioned by mandyman above, they are one among a number of trucks that Tweet their locations. You can also find them on certain nights at the Alibi Room in Culver City.

Now, if only they'd extend the Red Line, you could do this on public transpo... But I digress. Enjoy your visit!
