up to date application checking application

A while back ( months ago ? ) I heard on some podcast ( not sure which one ) about an application that would check the version of all applications running on my computer ( windows xp ) and tell me which ones have newer versions available. Does anyone know of any such program(s) ? Tried googling but the search terms I came up with are are too generic: "windows application current checker" Thanks for any responses.

Versiontracker does this. I've only used the Mac version but I've found most of the apps I use frequently will do their own checks on startup.

Secunia PSI. Excellent program. I run it on all my PCs.

FileHippo also has an app that checks a good number of applications you may have running..

Seconding filehippo. It's free and small. It checks all (or most) programs installed on your machine (even if they are not running at the time), and some drivers. I usually just keep it set to run and check upon boot-up. It differentiates between beta vs regular versions, too.

Response by poster: Thanks! I'm now using FileHippo. It seems pretty good.
