NYC doctor filter: physical therapist or appropriate doctor for carpal tunnel symptoms?

I think a PT is the doc to see for sore wrists that may be associated with carpal tunnel. Work on a computer all day, having symptoms for a couple of months. Looking for a PT recommendation in Manhattan. (If I need to see someone other than a PT I'll take that recommendation...)

Prefer the west side but pretty much anywhere if you got a good one!

an ex of mine with carpal tunnel used to go to ny sports med and recommended them highly to others; one of their two locations is at columbus circle.

You should probably start with an orthopedist, who would refer you to a physical therapist if physical therapy is indicated, or to a neurologist for electrodiagnostic tests.

Improving carpel tunnel is all about finding a talented "manipulator" (massage/physical therapist, chiropracter, alexander technique practitioner etc.) who can assist in breaking down the adhesions and scar tissue in your hands, forearms, elbow and shouldler girdle that are causing the symptoms.

I first developed carpel tunnel like syndrome about two years ago from my computer use, more severe in my mouse hand. My symptoms didn't really improve until I saw an Active Release Practitioner 4-5 times over 3 months. There should be a few in your area certified in upper body mechanics and nerve entrapment.

I would avoid physical therapists unless they're trained in some sort of formal sports massage, trigger point or myofacial therapy and are hands on with it. My symptoms decrease significantly during the treatment (assessed by holding my hand to the sky, fingers out stretched and comparing the tingling/numbness and tightness I feel before/after the session).
